We are pleased to present the final report from the Governor's Trade and Logistics Initiative.
Last spring, Hanjin and Hapag-Lloyd ended their container shipping service at the Port of Portland's Terminal 6. Even before the departures, Oregon exporters and importers have been facing mounting challenges due to labor-management issues, rising shipping costs and declining trucking options.
In response, Governor Kate Brown in April announced a project to work with small- and medium-sized business across Oregon to identify common challenges and opportunities. Our team traveled the state to talk directly with exporters, importers and freight logistics companies. We talked with more than 300 people in eight community town halls from Albany to Hermiston to Medford.
The report provides a complete list of the recommendations and our sincere thanks to all the partners and companies who helped make these recommendations possible.
We believe this report provides real and substantial step forward our efforts to help Oregon companies reach global markets. We also believe that the challenges Oregon faces in container shipping are urgent and require swift action by state agencies, ports and lawmakers. We thank you for your support.
